Welcome to the registration page for the 2026 Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP 2026), taking place October 24–29, 2026, in Budapest, Hungary.
Whether attending in person or virtually, this page provides information on registration categories, pricing, paper presentation registration, deadlines, and conference policies.
Please note: Conference Registration and Paper Presentation Registration are separate requirements. (Paper registrations occur within the conference registration and is not a separate registration)

Registration Categories
Student For attendees currently enrolled in an undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, or equivalent academic program. Student verification is required by uploading either a current Student ID showing the enrollment period or an official acceptance or enrollment letter from the institution.
Academic For attendees employed by universities, colleges, government agencies, government research laboratories, nonprofit organizations, or academic research institutions, including Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers, Postdoctoral Researchers, Research Scientists, Research Fellows, Academic Staff, and employees of nonprofit or government research institutions.
Industry For attendees employed by commercial, for-profit, private sector, or industry organizations, including AI Researchers, Research Scientists, Software Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers, Technical Program Managers, Consultants, Directors, Executives, and other industry professionals.

Accepted Paper Information
All individuals participating in EMNLP 2026 must complete either an In-Person Conference Registration or a Virtual Conference Registration.
Conference Registration and Paper Presentation Registration are separate requirements. (Paper registrations occur within the conference registration and is not a separate registration)
Paper Presentation Registration Requirements
All accepted Main Conference, Findings, Computational Linguistics (CL), Transactions of the ACL (TACL), Industry Track, Demo, and Workshop papers must be registered, and the applicable Paper Presentation Registration Fee paid by the applicable Paper Registration Deadline to remain in the conference program and proceedings.
Exceptions
Accepted Findings papers that are not being presented are not required to pay the Paper Presentation Registration Fee and will remain in the proceedings. Authors attending the conference must still complete a conference registration.
Shared Task Workshop papers are not required to pay the Paper Presentation Registration Fee. However, any author or designated presenter attending the conference must complete a conference registration.

At least one author or designated presenter must use a qualifying conference registration to register the paper(s).
A single qualifying conference registration may register a maximum of six (6) accepted papers.

The presenting author or designated presenter may complete their personal conference registration after the applicable Paper Registration Deadline, provided the paper has already been registered using a qualifying conference registration.
Papers that are not registered by the applicable Paper Registration Deadline will be removed from the conference program and proceedings.
ACL Membership
All conference attendees must have a current 2026 ACL Membership.
If you do not already have a current ACL Membership, the appropriate membership will be added during registration.

Cancellation, Attendance Format Changes & Refund Policy
The Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) is committed to supporting our attendees while ensuring fairness and predictability in managing event registrations. Please review our Cancellation, Change & Refund Policy carefully before completing your registration.
Change Fees
A US$25 administrative change fee applies to the following registration changes:
- Switching from in-person to virtual
- Switching from virtual to in-person (if capacity allows)
After October 8, 2026, presentation formats are final and no additional presentation changes will be permitted.
If your visa has not yet been approved, ACL recommends registering as a Virtual Presenter. Once your visa is approved, you may request a change to In-Person Presentation, subject to conference deadlines and scheduling availability.
Cancellation Deadlines & Fees
On or Before September 24
- Full refund less US $50 processing fee
September 25 – October 1
- Cancellation permitted
- US $200 cancellation fee
- OR convert to Virtual Attendance at no additional charge
October 2 – October 8
- No cancellation refunds
- May convert to Virtual Registration changes are permitted only between equivalent registration types. Registrants may not downgrade from one registration product to another after purchase. Refunds will be calculated using the equivalent registration category only. Registrations may not be converted to a different registration product or package.
After October 8
- No refunds
- No presentation changes
Exceptions
All exceptions must be submitted in writing with supporting documentation for review and approval by ACL.
Visa Denials: If a visa application is denied, registrants may convert their registration to Virtual Attendance.
Registration changes are permitted only between equivalent registration types. Registrants may not downgrade from one registration product to another after purchase.
Refunds will be calculated using the equivalent registration category only. Registrations may not be converted to a different registration product or package.

Anti Harrasement Policy
ACL is committed to providing a professional, welcoming, inclusive, and harassment-free environment for all attendees, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, speakers, and staff.

Code of Ethics
ACL adopts the ACM Code of Ethics.
All attendees are expected to conduct themselves professionally and ethically throughout the conference.

Badge Use & Reprint Policy
Conference badges are issued exclusively to the registered attendee and are non-transferable. A valid conference badge must be worn and clearly visible at all times to access conference sessions, exhibits, meal functions, networking events, and other conference activities.
Badge Use
- Conference badges are the property of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL).
- Badges may not be shared, loaned, transferred, duplicated, altered, or used by anyone other than the registered attendee.
- Badges must remain intact as issued. Altering, separating, cutting, or modifying any portion of a conference badge to permit use by more than one individual is strictly prohibited.
- Attendees may be asked to present photo identification to verify badge ownership at any time during the conference.
Lost, Forgotten, or Damaged Badges. If your badge is lost, stolen, forgotten, or damaged, please visit the Registration Desk for assistance.
Additional badge replacements may be subject to a US$100 reprint fee. ACL reserves the right to verify the identity of any attendee requesting a replacement badge.
Badge Misuse
Any attempt to share, transfer, alter, duplicate, or misuse a conference badge, or to provide conference access to an unregistered individual, is considered a violation of conference policy.
ACL reserves the right to take appropriate action, including:
- Confiscation of the badge(s)
- Removal from the conference without refund
- Cancellation of the attendee’s registration
- Denial of access to conference events and activities
- Restriction from participation in future ACL conferences
Photography & Recording Notice
Conference sessions, meetings, networking events, and other conference activities may be photographed, audio recorded, video recorded, or livestreamed for conference-related purposes.
By attending EMNLP 2026, you acknowledge that your image, voice, or likeness may appear in conference recordings, livestreams, promotional materials, or future conference publications.
